Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Marvin Johnson has insisted that the team are now well aware that they have a great chance of avoiding relegation this season.

Wednesday have won their last game four league games on the trot and have won five of their last six Championship fixtures.

The Yorkshire side are still sitting second from bottom but are level on points with Huddersfield and Stoke, who are sitting above them.

Johnson stressed that there is real confidence and belief running through the team and pointed out that it was apparent even in the defeat against league leaders Leicester City.

The Sheffield Wednesday midfielder stressed that the key thing is that the players know that they have a great chance of surviving this season and the team still have a massive amount of fight left in them.

Johnson told BBC Radio Sheffield: “We have just gone into each and every game with belief.

“Even when we played Leicester, you could see that in the second-half performance from the whole team.

“We are taking each game at a time.

“We know that we are not eleven points adrift and we are not dead and buried.

“There is a lot of fight left in us.”

Sheffield Wednesday will be hosting second-placed Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday night as they hunt what would be a shock win against the automatic promotion contenders.
