Southampton officials are in Brazil to try and push through a move for Sao Paulo left-back Welington despite interest from Torino.

Saints are pressing forward with their attempts to get their hands on the 23-year-old defender in the ongoing transfer window.

Southampton felt a deal was in the bag after the defender underwent a medical with the club this week.

However, Italian outlet Torino have refused to back out of the race and are trying to hijack Southampton’s pursuit of Welington.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, a team of Southampton officials have flown over to Brazil to try and get the deal over the line.

They are in the South American country at the moment to push through a deal to sign the defender.

Southampton are hopeful of convincing Welington to move to the Premier League over interest from Torino.

Saints want him to pen a pre-contract agreement, given his deal ends in December, but then will try to snap him up this summer.
