Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi remains Newcastle United’s top choice centre-back choice, despite the Magpies having failed to agree a fee for him yet, according to Sky Sports News.

The Magpies have been relatively slow in the market since the flurry around the end of June’s PSR deadline and they are trying to bring in more players before the end of this month.

Eddie Howe is keen on bringing a new central defender after the Magpies secured Lloyd Kelly on a free deal.

Eagles star defender Guehi, who impressed with his performances in Euro 2024, is a big target for Howe’s side.

Crystal Palace want £65m to let Guehi go and Newcastle have seen three of their bids being rejected by the Eagles.

The 24-year-old England international, however, is still Newcastle’s priority centre-back target this summer, even after three rejections.

It was recently suggested that the Magpies have been in active discussions with Guehi alternatives but they are yet to give up on Guehi.

Newcastle’s latest bid for the Eagles man was a £60m total package and they have been tipped to do their best to sign him by the end of the month.
