Rangers will need big players to stand up and deliver moments of big quality following European games, former top flight star Scott Allan feels.

Philippe Clement’s Gers were in action last week at Malmo in the Europa League and scored a superb win to start their campaign in style.

However, despite Clement making changes against Hibernian on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership, there was a European hangover as the Gers put in a poor performance.

They were able to claim a 1-0 win thanks to a wonder goal from Tom Lawrence and Allan thinks that could be the pattern for the season.

He believes Rangers will need big players to step up with big moments of quality on the back of European games.

“The goal was a thing of beauty and the only moment of quality in the game from a Rangers point of view”, Allan said on BBC Sportsound.

“Throughout the season, it’ll take moments like that in these type of games – off the back of Europe.

“The fans, the manager and the players will all be frustrated with how they played.

“But that’s why you have players with quality, to show in big moments.”

Rangers were able to stay just five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen following the win, but are back in European action next when they take on Lyon at Ibrox in the Europa League.
