Liverpool are planning to announce the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

The Reds are showing serious intent in the transfer market this summer and quickly moved on from losing Trent Alexander-Arnold by signing Jeremie Frimpong.

Now a club record swoop for Wirtz is on the cards with a big fee agreed with Leverkusen for the highly rated attacking midfielder, who was also wanted by Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool are moving quickly now to get the transfer finalised and, according to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, the official announcement ‘is planned for’ Friday.

Wirtz has already thrashed out personal terms on a long-term contract with Liverpool.

He will just have to pass his medical checks, which is not expected to be an issue, and then he will be able to sign his contract.

Landing one of the top young players in world football will be seen as a big feather in Liverpool’s cap as they look to win their 21st league title next season.

Elsewhere, the Reds could soon cash in on Darwin Nunez.

The striker is wanted by Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Napoli, and it is Antonio Conte’s Napoli who lead the race.

Liverpool are keen to cash in on the Uruguayan, who has not lived up to expectations on Merseyside since joining from Benfica.

Selling Nunez should unlock more cash for Liverpool to chase another striker, as they look to ease the goals burden on Mohamed Salah.

And the prospect of Wirtz unlocking defences should be a very tempting proposition for whoever Liverpool target as their new striker, with Hugo Ekitike a key candidate.
