Julian Brandt has given Leeds United a quick example of what they missed out on by coming on off the bench to score for Ajax on Sunday.

Leeds chased the winger for several weeks this summer and hosted his entourage at Thorp Arch as they looked to sell a move to the German.

It did seem Leeds had a genuine chance of signing Brandt after it was suggested the attacking midfielder was fascinated about the idea of playing in the Premier League.

Brandt though ultimately snubbed Leeds and agreed a move to Dutch giants Ajax on a three-year contract.

And he has wasted no time in showing Leeds exactly what they missed out on, as he came off the bench and scored Ajax’s second in a 2-0 win at Zwolle in the Eredivisie.

He played a neat one-two with a team-mate and then made no mistake as he guided the ball into the back of the net from inside the penalty area.

Leeds have not landed an alternative to Brandt yet despite having been said to have several irons in the fire.

They have been keen on Marseille winger Igor Paixao, who joined the French giants ahead of Leeds last summer.

Paixao though is settled at the Stade Velodrome and is not keen on departing Marseille this summer, even though the Ligue 1 side need to make sales.

Leeds still have a number of weeks left in the transfer window to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad and will be working overtime to do so.

They also still have the futures of a number of fringe players to resolve, with winger Largie Ramazani keen to complete a return to Valencia.

The Spanish side though are only offering a loan with an option to buy and Leeds would rather cash in on Ramazani.
