Real Madrid returned to the top of the La Liga standings after their impressive come from behind victory against city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday. The home side were down early in the first half, but responded impressively in the second to turn the tie around. Striker Gonzalo Higuain was again on the score sheet, prompting manager Manuel Pellegrini to once again heap praise on his strike force.

"The fact that Cristiano Ronaldo is so aware of the shots that could have been scored is just part of his game. I believe in him and Higuain. They don’t think about being the top scorers, although I hope they finish like that.” Pellegrini said on the club’s official website. “We had to beat Atletico and now Racing [Santander] and Barcelona await. I have complete faith in the squad and in whoever is on the pitch."

Real are currently leading second placed Barcelona only by goal difference, making their clash in two weeks time even more significant than the massive affair it already usually is.
