Marseille boss Didier Deschamps would like to see Luis Fabiano join the French champions, but the club’s hierarchy are convinced that the Brazilian’s wage demands would scupper any deal, even providing for the agreeing of a fee with Sevilla.

L’Equipe report that Deschamps took the step of sounding out the Brazil striker over a possible move to the south of France and found Luis Fabiano surprisingly receptive. The offer of a Ligue 1 title challenge combined with Champions League football was enough to turn the Sevilla star’s head.

However, closer inspection of a possible deal by Marseille officials revealed that Luis Fabiano currently earns around €4M per year with Sevilla, making the accommodation of the striker within the Stade Velodrome wage structure unlikely.

It appears that Deschamps’ search for a big-name striking addition will continue to be centred on the trio of Alberto Gilardino, Didier Drogba and Luis Suarez.
