Bastian Schweinsteiger was honoured yesterday by German sports magazine Kicker. The respected publication named the 26-year-old midfielder Best Player of the Year.
Schweinsteiger recently handed Bayern Munich a boost by agreeing to extend his contract with the club, which was due to expire in 2012, signing a new deal running until 2016. The Germany star had been widely linked with a move abroad, with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter all watching his situation with great interest.
Currently enjoying the Bundesliga’s winter break, Schweinsteiger will look to hit the ground running when the league resumes on 15th January.
