Chelsea may be about to join the chase for Udinese’s highly rated Chilean Alexis Sanchez according to reports from Italy. The 22-year-old winger-cum-striker has been impressive with the Serie A club and also added to his legion of fans at last summer’s World Cup.

Inter and Manchester United have been the most active on Sanchez’ trail thus far, but Massimo Moratti’s recent declaration that he has made no move for the player appeared to leave the door open for the Premier League club. Now United could face competition from a league rival however.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has conceded to his coach Carlo Ancelotti’s wish to add more firepower to the Stamford Bridge outfit and will make €25M available to the ex-AC Milan boss. Ancelotti intends to use €18M of this to purchase Sanchez from Udinese.

With the Serie A side reluctant to sell in the winter transfer window though, the real battle for the Chilean’s signature will most probably take place in the summer.
