Sunderland, flush with cash after selling Darren Bent to Aston Villa, are stepping up their bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Stephane Sessegnon. The English side have been tracking the player for some time, but a concrete offer failed to land in the French capital – now one has however.

According to Le Parisien, Sunderland have contacted Paris Saint-Germain to bid €5M for the 26-year-old midfielder and are hopeful that the Ligue 1 side will deal.

Sessegnon can play right across the midfield, starring more often than not as a playmaker however. The Benin international joined PSG in 2008, making the switch from Le Mans and has enjoyed an impressive time in Paris thus far.

With PSG themselves having paid €8M for Sessegnon, the French side may well be hoping to recoup a larger amount for the player and could yet tell Sunderland to up their bid.
