Reports from Turkey suggest that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Galatasaray attacking midfielder-cum-winger Arda Turan.
The 24-year-old burst onto the scene at Euro 2008, impressing many with his quick feet, tireless running and superb vision. It was expected that the Turkish star would soon be on his way from Galatasaray, but no move ever materialised with the Istanbul giants standing firm in their determination to keep hold of Turan.
Now however, Galatasaray are enduring such a poor campaign domestically that missing out on European football for next season appears a realistic possibility; a Champions League spot is already well beyond their reach.
Chelsea have taken note of this and the Turkish press speculate that Turan could be very keen to swap the shiny new Turk Telekom Arena for Stamford Bridge.
An intriguing sub-plot is Galatasaray’s interest in Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. Determined to regain their place at the top of the Super Lig table next season, the Istanbul side are watching Drogba’s position in London with great interest, believing the 32-year-old will soon be looking for an escape route.
Therefore, Galatasaray could ask for Drogba to be included in any deal for Turan.
