Ligue 1 giants Marseille could move for Roma left back John Arne Riise as they ponder how to replace Taye Taiwo.
The Nigeria defender is heading to AC Milan in the summer when his contract at the Stade Velodrome expires, causing the French outfit to consider who should replace a player who has been a fixture at left back. And Riise is an option.
A former Liverpool defender, Riise moved to Roma in 2008 and was initially praised throughout Serie A for his work ethic and rasping shot. However, the 30-year-old is expected to be available from the Italian side this summer and a move to France may appeal, especially as Marseille should be able to offer something Roma cannot – Champions League football.
Marseille may have to see off interest from several Premier League sides for Riise though, a league in which his stock remains high.
