Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the Red Devils are closing in on Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea.

Yesterday news broke that the D-Day for the deal was Monday, when United are expected to iron out the final details with Atletico and snap up the 20-year-old. And Ferguson has confirmed that they are indeed edging closer towards signing the Spaniard as a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

"We’ve been working on it for quite a while", said the United boss when questioned on De Gea.

"He is young, very quick, good composure, presence and an outstanding replacement for Van der Sar."

United are expected to pay Atletico Madrid €20M for De Gea.
