New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that he is not just following in Jose Mourinho’s footsteps.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a season of stellar success with FC Porto, the same club Mourinho proved his worth, and has made the same move as his mentor by switching to Chelsea.

But while at first glance it appears Villas-Boas is following the same route as the man he served as an assistant at Chelsea and Inter, the Portuguese himself insists that is not the case.

"I think there is no way you can avoid comparison", said Villas-Boas.

"It is something that is the interest of the media.

"I didn’t take the Porto job nor the Chelsea job because Jose made the same steps.

"They are two of the most sought-after clubs in the world and in the end I had the opportunity and was able to make them find something in me that they thought would continue their route to success."

Villas-Boas faces a tough time at Stamford Bridge, however Chelsea have recognised his potential by paying €15M to snare their new boss from Porto, as well as handing him a three-year contract.
