Roma are stepping up their interest in Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The Dutchman is keen to head to Serie A and would welcome the opportunity to represent the Giallorossi, but the two clubs remain some way apart in their valuation of the 29-year-old.

Ajax had originally been looking for an amount in the region of €12M for Stekelenburg, however no takers at that price point has forced the Amsterdam side to cut their asking price to €10M.

This is still too high for Roma though, who are playing hardball over Stekelenburg, well aware that the player wants to move to the Italian capital and has just a further year to run on his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Thus Roma are only willing to offer €7M for the Holland international.

A difference of €3M looks bridgeable though and further negotiation should see the two parties find common ground and Stekelenburg join the Serie A giants.
