Gervinho will officially put pen to paper on an Arsenal contract today after undergoing a short tour of the club’s facilities.

The Ivory Coast hitman is costing the Gunners €12M to buy from Lille and his signing will provide the Emirates with a welcome morale boost after seeing a whole raft of first team players linked with the exit door.

Gervinho’s arrival has come too late for the forward to play a part in Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia, but it could be crucial to Arsene Wenger’s bid to persuade Samir Nasri to remain at the club.

Two bids of £20M remain on the table for Nasri, from Manchester City and Manchester United respectively, and the French midfielder himself has so far refused to sign an extension to his current deal – a deal with just one year left.

Wenger has not given up hope of the former Marseille man remaining though and hopes that the signing of Gervinho will help to reassure the midfielder of the club’s ambitions.
