Promising young Brazilian defender Alex Sandro is thought to have chosen to move to FC Porto ahead of Benfica.

Sandro currently turns out for Brazilian side Santos and has impressed both Portuguese giants with his displays, which soon saw interest from the pair firmed up.

The 20-year-old, who has so far made six appearances in the Brasilerao this year, was split between the two sides, but is thought to have finally opted for the 2011 Europa League winners.

Both Benfica and FC Porto stood ready to pay the €9.5M Santos demanded for Sandro, but Porto’s personal terms were put to the player sooner and proved too tempting to turn down.

The young defender has appeared for Brazil’s Under-20 side and only moved to Santos in 2009, switching from Atletico Parananense.

His sale will represent a quick profit for Santos and also hand Alex Sandro the opportunity to fulfil his potential at a side renowned for developing Brazilian talents in Europe.
