Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath has completely closed the door on any possibility of Brazilian midfielder Diego remaining with the Bundesliga club.

Diego fell out with Magath last season and the former Bayern Munich manager soon met the player to discuss whether he should depart; and both parties agreed the Brazilian must move on.

But despite being linked with a number of clubs over the summer, most notably Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, Diego has not yet moved. And even though a transfer to the Vicente Calderon looks likely, Magath has still made it clear that the player cannot remain.

"The club and I agree on the fact he’s got to leave", said Magath, "since he’s not going to play if he doesn’t leave."

The former Juventus schemer cost Wolfsburg a substantial €15M to sign, but will take a heavy loss to offload the player.

La Liga side Atletico Madrid look Diego’s most likely destination and the player himself is excited about a potential move to Spain.
