La Liga side Real Sociedad have sounded out Arsenal over Mexican forward Carlos Vela.
The 22-year-old has popped onto the Basque club’s radar as they seek reinforcements for the forthcoming season – La Liga kicks off on 21st August – and to this end Sociedad contacted Arsenal to express an interest.
However, the Spanish side are waiting to learn whether they can take Vela for next season, most probably on loan, and it is unclear whether Arsenal will allow the Mexican to head back to a country he has had two spells in since joining Arsene Wenger’s men.
Vela, who holds a Spanish passport, increasing his attractiveness to clubs from La Liga, has enjoyed time with Salamanca and Osasuna in previous years.
The forward, who can also operate on the flank, spent the second half of last season on loan with English club West Brom, clocking up eight appearances.
Despite interest earlier this summer from Galatasaray and Real Zaragoza, Vela and his agent have remained certain that he will receive a chance at the Emirates this season.
Whether Arsenal will change that stance and push Vela towards the exit door once again, with Real Sociedad hopeful the Gunners do, remains to be seen.
