Chelsea look set to try and derail Real Madrid’s move for Brazilian wonderkid Neymar.
Los Blancos have been sure of snapping up the Santos striker, with negotiations between the player, Santos and Jose Mourinho’s side just centring on when Neymar would land in Madrid.
Mourinho is keen for the striker to be at his disposal before the new La Liga season, but Neymar himself has made it clear that he wishes to compete in the Club World Cup with Santos before moving to Spain at the beginning of 2012.
Chelsea however have noted the delay and are investigating whether there is still a chance that Neymar could be tempted to Stamford Bridge instead.
To this end the Blues dispatched Andre Villas-Boas’ assistant Roberto Di Matteo to the midweek friendly between Germany and Brazil in order to once again establish contact with Neymar and his representatives.
Real Madrid though are stepping up their efforts to tie up the deal, with Florentino Perez due back at the Bernabeu this week in a bid to ensure an agreement with Neymar does not slip through the club’s fingers.
Chelsea however remain poised to scupper Real Madrid’s plans if given the opportunity by the 19-year-old and Santos.
