Rennes are believed to be closing on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding.

The Turkish star has been edged out of the first team picture at the Parc des Princes by the arrival of Kevin Gameiro from Lorient.

Erding was a target for Newcastle United earlier in the transfer window, but declared his intention to remain at PSG and fight for a starting spot.

That though seems to have changed and according to Canal+, the 24-year-old is set to move to Rennes, with the Breton club paying €8M for his services.

Erding joined PSG in 2009, moving from Sochaux for €9M.

Despite being born in France and representing the country at Under-17 level, Erding quickly decided that his loyalties lay with the country of his parents, Turkey.

Erding turned out for Turkey at Under-19 and Under-21 level before being handed his senior debut in 2008.
