Inter are plotting a raid on Manchester City for Carlos Tevez in the January transfer window – but must first make room on their wage bill.
The Nerazzurri are operating in a new economic reality where books must be balanced, a world which precipitated the sale of Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o to Anzhi Makhachkala over the summer.
Had Eto’o not been sold to the petrodollar fuelled Russian side, then Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder would have been sacrificed, with both Manchester United and Manchester City linked with the 27-year-old for much of the summer window.
New Inter boss Claudio Ranieri is keen on Tevez and would like to add the Argentine to his attacking options in January, but again a sacrifice will be needed.
And at present it appears the only way Tevez can be accommodated would be through the sale of 32-year-old Diego Milito.
The Serie A giants snapped up Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid over the summer and snaffled Mauro Zarate from Lazio on a season-long loan deal.
Both of these new arrivals are unlikely to be shipped out so soon after arriving, meaning Milito, who has been mooted as a target for Turkish outfit Galatasaray, is on the chopping block to make room for Tevez.
