Reports from France suggest that Paris Saint-Germain have made their opening play in the battle to sign David Beckham.
The former England international has long been mooted as a possible target for the Ligue 1 giants, with the club’s sporting director Leonardo known to enjoy a good relationship with the midfielder.
A big money offer from PSG then would be no surprise and, bankrolled by the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, the French outfit will be able to put a very tempting proposal to the 36-year-old.
And, according to French daily Le Parisien, the first moves have already been made, with confirmation of contact between Beckham and Leonardo.
"This was first contact", a source close to Beckham told the French paper.
"Leonardo wanted to know the intentions of David and what action he intends to take in his career and they spoke together about PSG."
The source also revealed that PSG’s owners are due to meet Beckham in Los Angeles in mid-October to push a potential deal further down the track.
