Manchester City are ready to join Barcelona in a titanic transfer tussle for AC Milan defender Thiago Silva.
The Brazil international was linked with Barcelona over the summer, but Milan were clear that they would not welcome any bids being sent to the San Siro for the 27-year-old.
Thiago Silva is a firm fan favourite at the Rossoneri, with some sections of the Italian champions’ support even going as far as to compare the defender with the legendary Franco Baresi due to his style of play and undoubted ability.
Barcelona however stand ready to try again for Thiago Silva next summer and the Catalans look set to send a bumper offer to Italy for the former FC Porto man’s services.
But Josep Guardiola’s side appear certain to face competition from Manchester City, with the Citizens unwilling to allow an opportunity to snap up one of the finest centre backs in the world football to pass without an attempt being made; and so, two of Europe’s wealthiest clubs will go head-to-head.
Thiago Silva has stressed his commitment to Milan in the past, though he is known to be keen to lift the Champions League, a feat which may be beyond the current Rossoneri crop.
A substantial offer will be required by Milan in the event that they have to, reluctantly, part with the Brazilian and, with the 27-year-old being under contract until 2016 with the Serie A giants, the Italians hold the whip hand.
