Arsenal are believed to be ready to bring forward plans to swoop for Hannover striker Mohammed Abdellaoue after Serie A side Palermo began to make moves for the 26-year-old.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is reluctant to buy another forward in the January transfer window, despite the fact that he has admitted a reliance on Robin van Persie and Marouane Chamakh will be on African Cup of Nations duty.
The Frenchman was mooted to be preparing to raid Hannover for the highly rated Abdellaoue in the summer, after the dust settled on Arsenal’s Premier League campaign.
But now Wenger must bring forward his swoop or risk losing the Norwegian international to Palermo.
Sources in Italy have confirmed that the Aquile have placed Abdellaoue at the top of their January shopping list and will do all they can to snap up the goal-getter.
Arsenal are believed to be willing to offer Hannover around £6M for the striker, who has already scored eight goals in this season’s Bundesliga, a feat which has added to the good impression he has already made on the Gunners.
Abdellaoue is under contract with Hannover until 2014.
