Atletico Madrid are preparing to send an offer to Chelsea for Florent Malouda.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, Los Rojiblancos have identified Malouda as a potential January acquisition and will have ample room on their wage bill for the Frenchman after Jose Antonio Reyes is offloaded to Galatasaray, a move that is close to being agreed.

Malouda is currently struggling to cement a spot in Andre Villas-Boas’ Chelsea first team and has significant competition, with summer arrival Juan Mata impressing and Daniel Sturridge’s development on an upward curve.

The Frenchman’s situation has been noted by Atletico, who are desperate to give their season a shot in the arm.

Currently the Vicente Calderon outfit are mired in mid-table in La Liga and have suffered six defeats from their 15 games, leaking a disastrous 25 goals in the process.

On the fringes of the Chelsea picture, Malouda may welcome the opportunity to head to a side at which he would instantly be seen as a key man.

The 31-year-old winger joined the Blues in 2007, switching from Ligue 1 giants Lyon.

Malouda has picked up one Premier League title and one FA Cup during his stint at Stamford Bridge.
