The agent of Bologna star Gaston Ramirez has revealed that an English Premier League side are the front-runners for the midfielder’s signature.
Ramirez has been a long-standing target of Liverpool, while Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with holding an interest in the Uruguayan.
Within Serie A, it is Juventus who have been the most persistent of the player’s suitors and, though Ramirez is under contract with the Rossoblu until 2016, Bologna have accepted that if the 21-year-old wants out in the summer, he will get his wish.
Now Ramirez’ agent Pablo Betancourt has admitted that at least one club has put the wheels in motion to make that a reality.
"What I can tell you with certainty is that a major English club is going to Buenos Aires for negotiations and they are poised to come to an agreement for the 70% owned by Bologna and the 30% owned by Penarol", Betancourt told Calcio Mercato.
However, the player’s agent stressed that this does not necessarily mean that the Uruguayan will definitely end up in England.
Asked whether England is a certainty, Betancourt replied: "No, I did not say this.
"There are other teams interested, like Juventus for example, but the only concrete offer for now is from England and it will soon be given to Bologna."
The highly rated Uruguayan has starred for Bologna this season, appearing in 25 Serie A games and scoring five goals in the process.
Ramirez joined the Rossoblu in 2010 from Penarol for €2.5M.
