Liverpool are ready to rekindle their interest in Brazilian attacking midfielder Diego and snap up the 27-year-old from under the noses of Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

Diego is currently on a season-long loan at the Vicente Calderon after falling out with Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath at the Volkswagen Arena last year.

The former Juventus schemer has started to enjoy his football once again in Spain and has shown glimpses of his brilliance in La Liga.

So much so that the 27-year-old could fit the bill for a Liverpool side devoid of true midfield creativity.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is thought to be eyeing up a €10M offer plus lucrative personal terms for Diego, and will hope that proves enough to tempt the player away from the Spanish capital and to Anfield.

Despite being under contract with Wolfsburg until 2014, the chances of the Brazilian returning to the Volkswagen Arena look slim, and the Wolves will be happy to cash in.

Liverpool were linked with a swoop for Diego last summer, but no move materialised, leaving the player on the plane to Madrid.
