Young Flamengo starlet Adryan has revealed that he turned down a switch to Manchester United because he is determined to progress his career one step at a time.

The 17-year-old Brazilian midfielder recently shone in the Under-17 World Cup and attracted admiring glances from a number of Europe’s elite, including Barcelona.

Also one of the interested parties was Manchester United, who were prepared to whisk the promising talent to Old Trafford, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men spoke with Adryan directly, though were unable to convince him of the merits of a switch to England at this stage.

"Manchester United spoke to me and showed a lot of interest", the Flamengo star told O Globo.

"But I had no intention of going anywhere at the moment", he added.

"If in future it is possible and interesting then I will think about it.

"I don’t need to go to Europe so quickly. I prefer to take things step by step."

Should Adryan continue to impress and make progress at Flamengo, then it is almost certain further attempts will be made to acquire the starlet.
