Former Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal has emerged as a possible successor at CSKA Moscow to Leonid Slutsky.
The Army Men suffered another setback yesterday when Zenit St. Petersburg breezed past them in the Championship Stage of the Russian Premier League, winning 2-0.
With no chance of catching Luciano Spalletti’s men, CSKA Moscow are thinking to the future and that could be a future which includes Van Gaal.
The Dutchman, who has been out of work since parting company with Bayern Munich last year, will however need some persuading to move to the Russian capital.
It is thought that CSKA Moscow do not have the financial resources that the former Barcelona coach feels are necessary to see off the threat of Zenit and big spending Anzhi Makhachkala, a team also bossed by a Dutchman in the shape of Guus Hiddink.
Van Gaal is also not short of suitors elsewhere, with English side Liverpool the latest to be linked with a bid for his services.
