Manchester United look to have won the race for Shinji Kagawa after the player himself was quoted as confirming that a switch to Old Trafford is on the cards.
The Japan midfielder is out of contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and recently rejected the chance to pen a new contract with the German champions.
Kagawa has insisted that a decision on his future is on hold until after the German Cup final, in which Dortmund are due to meet Bayern Munich in Berlin on 12th May.
But it seems that the midfield schemer has already chosen to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s men and will link up with the Red Devils soon after Dortmund’s 2011/12 campaign officially ends.
"On 12th May I will play my last game with Borussia Dortmund", the 23-year-old was reported to have said to TV Osaka.
"Then I’ll start a new chapter with Manchester United", he added.
Kagawa landed at Dortmund in 2010, joining for just €350,000 from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka.
Under Jurgen Klopp he excelled, helping the Ruhr giants to two successive Bundesliga titles and showing silky skills in the side’s engine room.
The 23-year-old has also scored a number of spectacular goals.
