Dirk Kuyt has cautiously backed Louis van Gaal for a role at Anfield.
The former Bayern Munich manager has been strongly linked with becoming Liverpool’s director of football, although he could cross paths with a striker in Kuyt who is on his way out.
Nevertheless, with nothing yet decided on the 31-year-old’s future, he has given an endorsement of sorts to Van Gaal.
"He is a Dutchman, has a great track record and the experience that the club could put to good use", the forward told De Telegraaf.
However, Kuyt stopped short of a full endorsement of Van Gaal, insisting that perhaps as a player it is not his place to air views on contenders.
"For a player, it’s not usual to say what you want about candidates", he insisted.
Kuyt though is hoping Liverpool appoint soon, with the power vacuum a concern.
"At the moment Liverpool have no coach and no technical director.
"Each club benefits from a structure. Look at the Dutch national team and you see stability and clarity are important."
