Klaas-Jan Huntelaar believes that he can form a deadly partnership with Robin van Persie for Holland, if handed the opportunity.
The Schalke striker recently spoke of his frustration at seeming set to be overlooked by Oranje coach Bert van Marwijk for Holland’s Euro 2012 opener against Denmark, in favour of Van Persie.
And Van Marwijk’s decision will hurt even more given that Huntelaar has told Inside Futbol that he is sure he can play alongside Van Persie in Poland/Ukraine.
"Me and Robin played together in the past. I was the central striker, he played as a number 10", Huntelaar told us.
"Dennis Bergkamp recently said that good players can always play together. I agree with him", he added, before insisting that the decision is, nevertheless, Van Marwijk’s.
"This is however the coach’s choice and not ours."
Huntelaar enjoyed an exceptional season at club level with Bundesliga giants Schalke, scoring a simply superb 48 goals in 48 games.
The Ruhr giants are working tirelessly to persuade the Dutchman to extend a contract which runs out in 2013.
