Wealthy Spanish side Malaga are spying a summer swoop for Schalke hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The former Real Madrid man was on fire with Schalke last season, scoring 48 goals in 48 games and impressing in both the Bundesliga and Europa League.

He has just one year remaining on his current contract with the Ruhr giants and is yet to pen an extension as he waits for a sign that Schalke are set to be active in the summer market and strengthen their squad to challenge for honours.

Should the Dutchman, who is currently competing at Euro 2012 with the Oranje, choose to leave Schalke, he will have no shortage of offers.

And one looks set to come from Malaga.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men secured qualification for next season’s Champions League through their La Liga finish in 2011/12 and, with veteran Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy having retired, are on the lookout for reinforcements.

Malaga would be likely to offer Schalke €20M for Huntelaar.

That is an amount the Germans could find impossible to refuse for a player with just 12 months remaining on his contract.
