Ajax left back-cum-midfielder Vurnon Anita is attracted to the prospect of signing for English Premier League outfit Newcastle United this summer, his agent has admitted.

Anita has been the subject of interest from the Magpies, who are keen to take the 23-year-old to St. James’ Park.

Alan Pardew’s men have already bid for Anita in a sign of how seriously they rate the Dutchman, and they are expected to follow that up with a new attempt after Ajax snubbed their initial offer.

And for Anita, a move to the Magpies would suit, according to the player’s agent Harry Lulofs, with then the door to one of the Premier League’s elite becoming ever so slightly more ajar.

"The first bid, which was a written bid, is a sign that Newcastle are interested and I expect the club will make a second bid", Lulofs told Ajax Life.

"Newcastle recently submitted a bid of €5M to Ajax, who did not agree with that transfer fee", he added.

"Vurnon is open to Newcastle. He finds it a nice, big club. Players who perform well at Newcastle are a step nearer the top clubs in the Premier League."

Anita made 28 appearances in the Eredivisie for Ajax last season as Frank de Boer’s men took the title.

He is under contract at the Amsterdam ArenA until 2014.
