Michael Ballack has emerged as a target for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
According to the Berliner Morgenpost, the Blue Devil have made contact with Ballack and are keen to take him to China.
The midfielder is currently a free agent having parted company with Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season.
Ballack has been heavily linked with a switch to the MLS, with New York Red Bulls identified as a potential destination.
But at Shanghai Shenhua, Ballack could link up with former Chelsea team-mates Nicolas Anelka and Didider Drogba, while the personal terms on offer in China are likely to be lucrative.
Ballack’s signing would be a coup for the Blue Devil. The midfielder is an international name following a career which saw him win 98 caps for Germany and enjoy notable spells with Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
