Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas believes it is unlikely the club will sign France international Yann M’Vila this summer.

Sources in France have suggested that Spurs recently made a bid for the midfielder, who Rennes expect to lose before the transfer window slams shut – but the 22-year-old will not be heading to White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas has instead turned his attention elsewhere in his quest to replace Croatian playmaker Luka Modric, a man expected to soon sign for Real Madrid.

"I do not think he will join the club", the Portuguese tactician told Eurosport, when asked about the English side’s swoop for M’Vila.

"He is a defensive player and to compensate for the departure of Luka, we are looking for someone more creative", he added, before admitting the Rennes man was most certainly on his list.

"We had an interest in him, but we have changed our mind."

It remains to be seen just who Villas-Boas will choose to swoop for when Modric’s transfer to the Bernabeu is confirmed, but the Portuguese is running out of time before the transfer window closes.
