Lazio are the latest side to cast their eyes in the direction of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.
Huntelaar is a man in demand, with his current contract at Bundesliga giants Schalke due to expire at the end of the season.
relatedNewsStorySchalke have so far failed to extend the Dutchman’s deal, but remain keen to persuade him to continue his career in Gelsenkirchen.
However, with the Holland international able to sign a pre-contractual agreement from January and then move for free next summer, a number of sides have been looking seriously at attempting to sign him.
And Lazio are the latest.
The Serie A outfit are believed to want to pair Huntelaar with veteran German hitman Miroslav Klose up front, to create a fearsome strike force which would terrorise Italian defences.
Lazio also think Huntelaar would relish another crack at Serie A, having endured a disappointing spell in the league with AC Milan, during which time he felt denied the proper chance to make an impact.
To sign the 29-year-old though, Lazio will have to see off serious opposition and offer the Dutchman a lucrative contract.
Last season Huntelaar notched a remarkable 48 goals in 48 games for Schalke.
