Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen has warned Liverpool that the Bundesliga giants are not planning to sell South Korean striker Son Heung-Min.
The Reds have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old, who has made a splash with Hamburg this season, while German champions Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be monitoring developments closely.
relatedNewsStoryHamburg though are not keen on parting with a player they have developed since the age of 16 and Arnesen is planning talks over extending Son’s contract soon, with his present deal set to run only until 2014.
And interest in the striker will not change his mind, especially given that Son is happy at Hamburg.
"Of course, speculation starts quickly when a young player starts to score goals", Arnesen told the Hamburger Morgenpost in response to talk of Liverpool’s interest.
"We will do everything to ensure he stays with us.
"In the winter, discussions over a new contract will take place.
"I can almost completely rule out that we will sell him.
"He is happy at Hamburg and we are happy with him."
Son has shone in Hamburg’s recent march up the Bundesliga standings, firing in four goals in seven games.
The Korean hitman is capable of playing through the middle as a central striker, but prefers to drift out to the right hand side of the attack.
He has won 11 caps at international level with South Korea and is rated as one of the Asian game’s most promising prospects.
