Barcelona have announced that they will carry Qatar Airways on their shirts as a sponsor from the 2013/14 campaign.

The Blaugrana already have the Qatar Foundation on their shirts at present and, as part of the deal which was inked with Qatar Sports Investments, the possibility of a replacement already existed – and now this is being exercised.

While no figures have been officially released detailing how much Barcelona will earn from the agreement, Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo have reported an amount.

According to the report, Barcelona will net €170M over the next six seasons, a figure of just over €28M per year.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was quick to give his blessing to the development, calling Qatar Airways "an ambitious brand with global aspirations, always committed to achieving the utmost excellence in its field. These are objectives with which FC Barcelona fully identifies."

Rosell also confirmed that the agreement will not see the end of Barcelona’s association with the Qatar Foundation.

"After sharing two fantastic years with Qatar Foundation, we are delighted to be continuing our relationship by welcoming them as our official Human Development Partner", he said.

Barcelona will be hopeful of the deal making more money available for strengthening the team.

While the Blaugrana continue to focus on youth, Real Madrid have splashed the cash in a bid to compete and should Barcelona be able to make extra money available to bolster coach Tito Vilanova’s team, it will no doubt be welcomed by fans.
