Liverpool are eyeing up a swoop for Levante midfielder Vicente Iborra, according to Valencia-based daily Superdeporte, but could face opposition from a number of other clubs for his signature.
The 24-year-old, who played 32 times in La Liga for Levante last season, helping the team to an impressive sixth place finish, has continued his superb form of last year in the current campaign.
So far Levante sit fourth in La Liga, behind Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, with Iborra again having been in the thick of their charge, playing in eleven of the club’s 12 games.
Iborra is a pure defensive midfielder, responsible for protecting the Levante backline and regaining possession.
And his good form has brought him to the attention of Premier League outfit Liverpool, who are desperate to bring in fresh faces in the January transfer window.
The precarious nature of Spanish club finances also mean that Iborra is likely to be available for the right price, despite the fact Levante coach Juan Ignacio Martinez would be loathe to lose the player.
Several clubs from Germany are also mooted to be watching Iborra’s situation closely, while from England, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic have been credited with an interest.

However, a proposal from Liverpool would surely trump any other offers and the 24-year-old would be expected to jump at the chance to move to Anfield.
Iborra is a product of Levante’s youth system.
He is under contract with the Spanish club until 2014.
