Chelsea have started the ball rolling on a potential swoop for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, according to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE.
The Blues are believed to have opened talks on taking Negredo to Stamford Bridge during next month’s transfer window, with a fee of around €18M being mooted as the possible price.
Sevilla’s board met just weeks ago to discuss a potential sale to help balance the books at the club and a figure of €20M was settled on as being enough to persuade them to part with Negredo.
And while Chelsea appear to want to pay €2M less than that amount, it does seem Sevilla could still let the former Real Madrid striker leave.

Chelsea are set to sell Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool for £12M when the transfer window opens at the start of next month and Negredo would arrive as a ready-made replacement for the Englishman.
Negredo is under contract with Los Rojiblancos until 2016 and has found the back of the net eight times in 15 La Liga appearances so far this season.
The 27-year-old was developed at Rayo Vallecano but spent time with Real Madrid’s B team, interspersed with a few matches for the senior side, before being sold to Almeria in 2007.
There Negredo impressed, leading to Real Madrid buying him back and then instantly selling him on to Sevilla in 2009.
At international level the striker has won 12 caps for Spain, scoring six goals.
