Javier Zanetti has told out-of-favour midfielder Wesley Sneijder that he can return to the fold at Inter if he wants to.

Sneijder has been frozen out at the Nerazzurri after refusing to sign a new contract which would see him take a pay cut from €6M per year to €4M per year.

As a result he has made just five appearances in Serie A this season and is expected to leave Inter during this month’s transfer window.

But Zanetti has told the Dutchman that if he signs the new deal at Inter he will be able to return to the team again without the club holding any grudges.

The veteran Argentine did add though that Sneijder must follow his heart.

"The only one who can decide about his future is himself", Zanetti told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He must speak out and be honest.

"If he wants to stay, there is a solution. I’ve told him that he should follow his heart.

"If he comes back and says he is looking forward to the future with Inter there will be no problem."

Sneijder has been linked with a whole host of clubs, including Anzhi Makhachkala, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Schalke and Zenit St. Petersburg.
