West Ham chairman David Gold has hinted that striker Andy Carroll is not far from a first team return, although the Hammers’ weekend Premier League clash against QPR may come too soon for the England international.

Carroll is on a season-long loan at Upton Park from Liverpool, but is currently sidelined through injury.

The former Newcastle hitman has shown promising signs of form during his time in a West Ham shirt so far and boss Sam Allardyce will be keen to have him back at his disposal as soon as possible.

And that should not be too far off, according to Gold.

"Andy should be in full trains [sic] this week", announced the West Ham supremo via his Twitter feed.

"Although I don’t think he will make QPR."

West Ham are next in action this evening when they travel to Old Trafford for an FA Cup Third Round replay.

The Hammers came close to knocking Sir Alex Ferguson’s men out at Upton Park, with Joe Cole’s second debut for the club proving to be an inspiration.
