Catania are interested in Manchester United striker Federico Macheda.

The Serie A side enquired about the 21-year-old yesterday, according to Calcio Mercato, and are keen to take him to Italy.

Macheda is struggling for playing time at Old Trafford, with Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney blocking his path to the first team.

The striker has had two disappointing loan spells away from Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, at Sampdoria and QPR respectively.

But Macheda believes he is better prepared should he head out on a fresh loan stint and he may soon get the chance to prove it.

Catania currently sit tenth in Serie A and are looking to push on during the second half of the campaign, with fresh faces.

Macheda could fit the bill for the Italians.
