Schalke are close to agreeing to sell Lewis Holtby to Tottenham Hotspur and will put the money towards a swoop for Lyon schemer Michel Bastos.
Tottenham have secured Holtby on a pre-contractual agreement which will see him head to White Hart Lane during the summer when his Schalke deal expires. However, Spurs are trying to bring forward the move to this month, by offering Schalke a small fee.
The Bundesliga outfit rejected Spurs’ initial offer, but it is thought a compromise figure of around €1.5M will be agreed this week.
And according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Schalke will then use some of this money to make an offer to Lyon for Brazilian wide-man Bastos.

The Ruhr giants are thought to be preparing a bid of around the €7M mark for the 29-year-old.
Bastos is keen to join Schalke if an agreement can be reached and for the German side, he would prove an able replacement for Holtby.
Schalke currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga, after winning just one of their last five league matches.
