Tottenham Hotspur look unlikely to be able to pull off a swoop for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao before the transfer window slams shut – unless they offer a mind-blowing sum.
Spurs are long-time suitors of the hitman and have been consistently linked with him throughout the transfer window.
There had been speculation that Spurs were pulling out all the stops to bring Damiao over to White Hart Lane – but Internacional are not willing sellers, as the club’s sporting director Marcelo Medeiros has stressed when speaking about the English side’s bid.
"Damiao does not go. The numbers were below what we wanted", he told Globo Esporte.

And, the Internacional sporting director added that the amount Tottenham wanted to pay for Damiao was lower than the £20M which had been mooted in the English press.
Damiao now looks set to remain in Brazil until at least the summer, when the chances of signing him may be a little better, despite the fact that Brazil will be in the middle of its domestic campaign.
The door is not shut on an exit though, with Mendeiros explaining that there could be movement, if Spurs dipped very deeply into their pockets.
Asked by Globo Esporte whether there was still a possibility of an exit for the player, he replied: "Sure there is. The Lucas to PSG move for example, that was one hell of a deal."
