Michael Laudrup is the overwhelming choice of Real Madrid fans to succeed Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu next season, with Rafael Benitez is second place.

The poll, which was run by Spanish daily AS and questioned more than 40,000 people, saw Laudrup as the fans’ preferred choice to take over in the Real Madrid dugout for 2013/14.

Laudrup, who is currently in charge of English Premier League side Swansea City, received a massive 73% of the votes.

Next in the poll was Chelsea boss Benitez, who has strong links with Real Madrid. He picked up 18% of the votes.

The Portuguese has fallen out of favour with large sections of the Real Madrid fans, while the club are also well adrift of Barcelona in La Liga and even behind city rivals Atletico Madrid.
