Norwich City have confirmed the summer capture of Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Portuguese giansts Sporting Lisbon.

The Canaries have swooped to snap up the 24-year-old, who will arrive in the summer and pen a four-year deal at Carrow Road.

Norwich have taken advantage of Sporting Lisbon’s poor financial state, with the Portuguese outfit needing to sell to bring in much needed cash.

It has even been suggested that the Canaries will pay the majority of the transfer fee at once, money that Sporting Lisbon will be delighted to pocket.

"Ricky’s profile is a perfect fit for us – he’s young, ambitious and a proven goalscorer", Norwich boss Chris Hughton told his club’s official site.

"He has an excellent goalscoring pedigree and he’s a young man very keen to continue his personal progression and to play in England. He’s already an exciting talent but he still has more development as a player ahead of him.

"I’m delighted we’ve been able to agree a deal with Sporting Lisbon and with Ricky and we look forward to welcoming him to the squad in July, once all of the paperwork gets sorted out."

For Norwich, signing Van Wolfswinkel is a real coup. The striker has been on Manchester United’s radar, with the club’s assistant manager Mike Phelan revealing that the former Utrecht man is a player they have kept a close eye on.
